whispers of the forgotten

quirks, spooks and books for those with a morbid curiosity

about the author

Hello there, fellow enthusiasts of the old, dark and spooky! Meet Marta, a history nerd, artist and amateur photographer, on a mission to share with you eerie tales of the past.

Born on the big day of the ancient Slavic goddess of death, she was marked with a love for all things morbid – and have embraced that destiny ever since. From a little weirdo casually chatting with ghosts, to a teenager designing own funerary monument for a school project – trust me, if she got a penny every time someone called her a creep, she’d be swimming in cash by now!

Fascinated with the past? You bet! She can spend hours getting lost in dusty archives, researching a random guy buried under a mossy gravestone two centuries ago.

Her obsession with Victorian era was so real, that at the age of 30, she moved from Lodz (Poland) to London, to uncover its spooky secrets and explore the epic cemeteries.

After nearly a decade here, as a full-on taphophile and member of a local history society, with her laptop bursting with thousands of pictures, she decided it’s time to turn her passion for researching the quirks of bygone era into this blog.

Whether you’re a taphophile too, a casual dark tourist, or just looking for a day out inspiration – she’s got you covered!

So, light a candle, grab a cuppa and settle in comfy. Dive into the stories whispered by the forgotten ones…
