whispers of the forgotten
Every place holds forgotten secrets. Every mossy headstone whispers stories from the past, inviting to wander through time… Are you curious enough to listen?

about the author
Hello there, Reader. So nice to find you here! Meet Marta, a history nerd, artist and amateur photographer, on a mission to share with you secrets heard in places where the past still lingers softly in the air.
The long-forgotten ones are patient, flickering behind crumbling monuments and peeking through the veil, waiting for someone to listen… So many stories are still untold – hidden in plain sight beneath our feet, around the corner, in nooks and crannies of central London.
She goes searching for them, so you don’t have to.
Born on the most important day of the cult of ancient Slavic goddess of death, she was marked with love for all things morbid – and has been embracing that destiny ever since. From a little weirdo casually chatting with ghosts to a teenager designing own funerary monument for a school project – trust me, if she got a penny every time someone called her a creep, she’d be swimming in cash by now!
Fascinated with the past, she could spend hours getting lost in dusty archives, researching a random person buried under a mossy gravestone two centuries ago.
Her obsession with Victorian era was so strong, that at the age of 30 she dropped her teaching career and moved from Lodz (Poland) to London – mostly for its epic burial grounds.
After nearly a decade here, as a full-on taphophile, member of local history society and a cemetery tour guide, with her laptop bursting with thousands of pictures, she decided it’s time to turn her passion into this blog.
Easy to read and sprinkled with dark humour, it will become your new favourite, no matter if you’re a dark tourist or just casually looking for a day out inspiration.
Just light a candle, grab a cuppa and let the whispers reach you…
